Dominos Pizza
Memories about the Dominos Pizza
One of my fondest memories as a child was when my grade school class would order Domino’s pizza. This was an event that occurred on the last Friday of every month. The class would come in from recess and there would be a table against the wall stacked with as many as 20 different pizzas. The school was offered a good rate so students only had to pay $2.00 for half a pizza and $5.00 for a whole pizza.
Drinks were always provided and we were always given free breadsticks if we ordered so many pizzas. To the average 12 year old this is a vision of Heaven. My friends and I would run to that table in the corner and fill our plates with as much as we could and we would sit for over an hour eating pizza and talking about how we could not wait until next month when we got to order again.
At home, pizza was a rare thing. My parents never had the money to order out or plan special trips to places like Dominos pizza, so school was the one place where I could enjoy good pizza with good friends. It was my own personal safe haven where for one day I did not have to hear about how we could not afford to order pizza.
Now that I am older, I realize that these memories are not completely about the pizza, but about doing normal things with people I cared about. Every time I see a Dominos pizza box I think of my childhood friends and the childhood that slowly, but surely slipped away. It reminds me of the better times of my youth before having to worry about algebra and broken hearts. I can’t wait until my children are a little older so I can enjoy “normal” things with them that I enjoyed from my childhood like ordering from Domino’s pizza and talking for hours with the people I love the most. It is only now that I realize just how much a piece of pizza is worth.
